JULY/AUGUST, 2008 PREVIEW

ARLENE BOGNA
Arlene Bogna’s “Safari Americana” photographs make the viewer sink into a nostalgic reverie. They include color-saturated images of hulking man-made bovines standing like dumb, complacent sentinels in dark R.V. parks or empty dirt lots. They exert a strong whiff of this country’s historic car culture. She asks us to consider what it is in human nature, or the American psyche, that makes us delight in the sight of painted, three dimensional animals perched atop sign poles or hawking honey from flat bed trucks. Bogna’s images have the spontaneous feel of snapshots, yet the carefully orchestrated camera angles and artist’s repeated down-low perspective capture the sheer naive exhibitionism of the roadway animal signs.

Isn’t that a wonderful article? Click on the link above for more!

When we hit Arlene’s art exhibit this past Saturday night (lots of pix in this link) Safari Americana: Scenes of Delight it was packed when we arrived. Following are more pictures taken by Tasty Pie Pictures that are much more artistic than my style.

Just know, the pictures he took don’t accurately reflect how packed this gallery was although they’re very stunning. Apparently, this was the busiest the gallery has been all year! I’m telling you, that’s PR in action baby.

Arlene explaining Favorite The Director of the J. Paul Getty, Michael Brand, was there and checked out Arlene’s work which was rather exciting. So was Peggy Fogelman, who Arlene had spoken on a panel with earlier. Peggy is now at the Peabody Museum, but had been at The Getty prior to that which is cool. (They’re the twosome in the pix above.)

Arlene had a multi-media corner with a video of cows walking around and occasionally mooing. Then she had set up a cow bell that you could hit a button to hear ring. At one point it was so busy you couldn’t hear anything! Cow bell

You can see all the pix if you click the link above entitled Safari Americana: Scenes of Delight.

Just know, if you missed the opening, you can still catch the exhibit through July 18. Click here for a link to all the details.

Remember my other success story artist, Gali Rotstein? You’re going to be so impressed when you read about what she’s been up to since we got her into the Lois Lambert Gallery!

Gali has a show at the Finegood Art Gallery West Hills located at 22622 Vanowen Street, West Hills, CA 91307 with an Opening Reception from 2pm -4pm this Sunday the 29th. Call 818 464- 3218 for more details if you can’t read the invite as is –be there or be square!
and…
Gali was one of 92 selected out of 2000 submissions to be in the DCA Municipal Gallery 2008 juried exhibition!!!!! Isn’t that awesome? Go Gali! For an emerging artist this is fantastic news! Check out www.loislambertgallery.com to see more of her work ok? I believe new art is uploaded now.

Today has been a great day for my clients Arlene Bogna and The Shore! YEAH!

By Joy A. Kennelly

It ALWAYS makes me happy when people I’m working with find success because it’s very much a team effort. It’s even nicer when I honestly like the people I’m working with and would have helped them even if they weren’t paying me, although the money makes it sweeter.

My Photographer/Award-winning Filmmaker client, Arlene Bogna, just informed me today that the LA Times has picked up her Safari Americana: Scenes of Delight solo exhibit show taking place this Saturday, June 21, 2008 from 6pm – 9pm at Gallery 825 located at 825 La Cienega as one of the Art Openings to highlight.

Click here to see for yourself! Go Arlene!

Not only that, but for all your art afficiandos out there, pretty soon you’ll be reading about her in ArtScene for their July issue! Now to those who aren’t in the art world, it’s like being published in Vanity Fair for artists. ArtScene is highly selective, everyone reads it, and it’s truly an honor for her to be selected.

I’m so proud of Arlene. YEAH!!!! She has worked so hard for so long on her own. I’m glad to have been a part in her success as an artist through my publicity efforts. She is so accomplished and modest she was always a little embarrassed when I would write what I did about her, but hey, it’s the truth and needed to be said. Right?

That’s why you hire a publicist – to accentuate the positive and get the word out there! Also, to help you build your image. It’s been a very exciting time to watch our publicity efforts achieve success together.

The other good news is that our Surfrider Benefit at The Shore is getting a lot of good buzz too! The Easy Reader, our local paper, placed the story in two separate calendar sections to give it a good buzz. I loved that they called it a Tasty Benefit! Kudos to Chef Dave for creating such an awesome tasting menu. Thanks everyone at The Easy Reader! You made our day!

The Beach Reporter put our ad in The Stepping Out section of the paper which is what everybody down here reads to find out what’s the latest for the week. Very cool too!

We’re getting a lot of positive response from people in the community who want them to succeed as a restaurant which is very encouraging to me. Also, Melissa Todd, our hostess from TVLand’s She’s Got the Look TV show, who grew up in the South Bay is excited to come back and help promote Surfrider Foundation too.

In case you haven’t seen the show, I’m sure it repeats on TV Land quite frequently. Check it out. Melissa is one leggy blonde if I do say so myself! I thought I was tall, but after seeing her on the runway… She has a really good heart and is very good at hosting too.

I hope my South Bay Professional Connection event provides lots of additional opportunities for her because she deserves to find success doing what she loves.

Oh, here’s some more pictures from the Shore to entice you to come visit. I believe they’re also taken by photographer Nathan Schirmer, but will confirm later ok? ShoreBar

Oh, and almost forgot to tell you some good news re: Travel Tray & GoChi Juice too!

By Joy A. Kennelly

We’ve been pitching companies the Travel Tray as you know and yesterday I followed up with everyone. The good news to report is that I have found a company that is interested! YEAH! As soon as I know anything further I’ll keep you posted. Say a prayer this goes through because that would be very cool.

I almost forgot to tell you also, that my last GoChi Juice Tasting party was part of my friend, Sandra’s celebration of her appearance on Hell’s Kitchen which was a lot of fun. I’m including some pix here to show you our GoChi Juice tasting parties in CA. This is how we do it ala that song.:)

My friend/GoChi colleague, Deb, was my partner in crime and we had a lot of fun meeting new people and celebrating Sandra’s success. Those of you who regularly watch Hell’s Kitchen may recognize Sandra as one of the housewives who doesn’t cook. Click the link to her episode entitled “Five Chefs Compete”. Now does it ring a bell?

You may not realize it, but she’s also a very accomplished actress/model who you will definitely be seeing more of soon. Any theatrical agents – give me a call. I’ll hook you up.

Isn’t Sandra a great model? Best sandra with GoChi She absolutely loves our juice because it gives her so much more energy. Click here for all 19 health benefits of GoChi Juice that are clinically proven.

Named for the “go” in goji and chi, the ancient Chinese term for “vital life force,” GoChi contains all the goodness of Himalayan Goji Juice, and so much more!

  • Scientifically demonstrated to deliver results in as little as 14 days
  • At least 30% more bioactive LBP than Himalayan Goji Juice
  • Preservative-free
  • Certified kosher and halal

In addition, GoChi Juice will be published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in their August issue which is a peer reviewed journal and very difficult to get into.

Entitled ‘A Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled, Clinical Study of the General Effects of a Standardized Lycium barbarum (Goji) Juice, GoChi™’, this ground-breaking study shows that GoChi can improve one’s health and well-being in 13 key areas through a daily serving of just 4 ounces, in as little as 14 days.”

Deb sharing Gochi Not only that, but we’re one of the few companies to be listed on the government’s medical site www.pubmed.gov – search for GoChi Juice and see what I mean!

Now do you see why I’m so thrilled to be representing this juice along with everything else I do? It’s because of the integrity of the company and the product. Trust me. I don’t publicize things I don’t believe in.

Okay, that’s all for today. Just giving you my little GoChi Juice update because it’s very exciting. If you’re interested in buying some to see for yourself, please click here, or shoot me an email at the link above, or leave a comment.

Love to hear from you and introduce you to Free Life International and GoChi Juice.

Decision time! Gochi girlsBack to Hell’s Kitchen.

Here’s Sandra appearance in the final contest. Isn’t she cute? She was one of the final two whose food Gordon Ramsey actually liked.

Oh, and speaking of Gordon Ramsey, have any of you had a chance to go visit The London West Hollywood that took over the old Bel Age?

ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! I don’t say that lightly either. This is an ABSOLUTELY beautiful secret that I simply must share with you now. It’s only been open a little under two months and I have the inside scoop here.

Stick with me babe. I may not live in Hollywood right now, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know what’s going on.:)

We were able to take a sneak peek at the upstairs rooftop pool and mark my words, this is going to be the next hotspot and may even replace The Mondrian it’s that sophisticated with such an amazing 360 view.

The rooms are gorgeous too. Very modern, chic, sophisticated and the room we saw had the biggest bathroom and tub I’ve ever seen except maybe in Las Vegas.

Gordon Ramsey also has a restaurant on site called simply, Gordon Ramsey, of course. I love the style of the restaurant and bar. It’s simple, elegant, refined, art deco, delightful! Haven’t dined there yet, but hope to soon.

Any one care to join me? Or better yet, take me there? LOL

Okay, I think that’s all for now. Really must get some other stuff stirring. Enjoy the rest of the pix. Just think. If you join my GoChi Juice team, this could be you having fun with us! And no, you don’t have to be busty to join. LOL It just happened to be that way by accident. Not that there’s anything wrong with it.

Photographer, Arlene Bogna’s new panel discussion June 21! Plus, more Miami pix…

By Joy A. Kennelly

Ever since returning from Miami I’ve been going through something of a life/career transition. While vacationing I had the epiphany that although I will always love art and am still open to representing artists, it’s not what I want to focus my entire business on any more.

With the economy the way it is…

Here’s a quote from a recent NY Times article entitled: Gatekeepers to the Art World, “As contemporary art’s Armory Show in New York concludes this weekend and the auctions unfold later this spring, many are watching to see what impact the sliding economy will have on the art market.

Mary Parr, a director at Cheim & Read in Chelsea, noted that if real estate slows noticeably, the art market follows suit about six months later. High-end collectors, she said, ‘don’t get affected as quickly.’

A springtime thaw in prices may well trickle down to the gallery’s front desk. When the public, perhaps of necessity transformed into eligible customers, pushes open those chilly opaque doors, will gallerinas finally look up and smile?”

Click the link here for the entire article. VEERRRRRYYYY Interesting.

That’s all I’ll say about that. Plus, the other reason to go back to a more diverse client roster is I miss the variety I’ve always enjoyed. There’s something to be said for being a generalist or jack of all trades. I still love artists though! Art rules!

I’m extremely proud and excited to share all the good news that’s been happening for my photographer client, Arlene Bogna. She cracks me up (in a good way) with her enthusiasm and joie de vivre for her upcoming solo show at Gallery 825 in Hollywood on June 21 from 6pm – 9pm. It’s almost like awaiting the birth of a child because in a way this is.

She has been receiving awesome feedback already from such media as the following:

The strange, sometimes funny, sometimes disturbing nature of human vs. animal relations is the focus of film maker Arlene Bogna’s first exhibition of color photographs at gallery 825. 6/21 to 7/18. www.laaa.org

What is really fun about working with Arlene is that she’s a hybrid between the film world and the art world. I’ve just spent the last few days promoting her involvement on the Discussions with the Artist panel with the very accomplished and former Getty guru, Peggy Fogelman, taking place at 4:30pm on June 21. Should be very interesting as it’s moderated by Gallery 825 Director, Peter Mays, who Arlene speaks very highly about.

Arlene herself has been very successful as a female director (contrary to the recent LA Times article’s assertion by The Big Picture: Patrick Goldstein Film directing is still a man’s world which brought the following written response from some very angry female directors representing the Alliance of Women Directors Hollywood’s got feeble excuses about female directors) and has won numerous awards for her PSA, Canvas.

I believe she is about to become very successful in the art world as well. Rumor has it her Gallery 825 show is “THE” show of the entire year (but then again, I AM her publicist, but I swear it’s true!:))

She’s extremely talented and uses her camera like a paintbrush. Here’s the most recent press release I’ve been pimping around on her behalf. Read it and you’ll see what I mean about her talent (and I’m not just saying it because I wrote it.:))

Oh, and click here for a peek at her press kit.

Oh, and since you’ve been so patient, here’s some of my architecture and art pictures from my vacation in Miami, FL.

I’ve been very busy, in addition to promoting Arlene, with producing another event for my South Bay Professional Connection starring Hermosa Beach’s own amazing Chef David Linville of The Shore Restaurant, and TVLand’s She’s Got the Look Finalist, Melissa Todd, a native of Redondo Beach, CA (she’s the tall blonde sitting down wearing a black dress to the left of Kim Alexis.) TVLand\'s She\'s Got the Lookwhich will benefit Surfrider Foundation. More details soon. In the meantime, don’t forget to mark your calendars for June 21 – Arlene Bogna’s solo exhibit of Safari Americana: Scenes of Delight! Be there.

Now here’s Miami and South Beach… I recommend hitting the Jewish Holocaust Memorial, Bass Museum of Art, Ocean Drive (of course! I especially loved visiting Ritz Carlton and the Delano), the Miami Design District and the Lincoln Road art and cafe scene. Very cool.

Enjoy!
